Introduction

A Remarkable Journey and Inspiring Legacy

In Gujarat, India, on the sacred Jain pilgrimage route from the MahaTirth Shatrunjay Giriraj to Palitana, stands the illustrious Jain Arya Tirth – Ayodhyapuram. This revered site came into existence through the divine inspiration of Acharyashri Jinchandrasagar Surishwarji Maharaj Saheb and Acharyashri Hemchandrasagar Surishwarji Maharaj Saheb.

On this holy land, saints and spiritual masters — true representatives of the divine — accomplish extraordinary vows and inspire countless souls. The depth of their determination often lies beyond our ordinary understanding.

A Glorious Beginning

The journey began on Maha Sud 5 of Vikram Samvat 2048, marking the centenary of Pujya Agam Uddharak Acharyashri Anandsagar Surishwarji Maharaj Saheb. In his memory, with the blessings of Panyas Pravar Gurudev Shri Abhaysagarji Maharaj Saheb and encouragement from Acharyadev Shri Ashoksagarji Maharaj Saheb, two devoted disciples — Bandhu Beladi Acharyashri Jinchandrasagarji and Acharyashri Hemchandrasagarji — led a spiritual pilgrimage (chhari palak sangh) from Surat to the great Sammet Shikharji.

More than 200 revered Saadhu and Saadhviji joined this historic procession — the first of its kind from Gujarat in nearly 250 years.

After reaching Sammet Shikharji and spending the monsoon retreat (Chaturmas) in regions such as Kolkata, over 140 ascetics returned through Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.

The Spark of a Noble Vision

The land is the birthplace of 5 of the 24 Jain Tirthankaras and the site of 9 out of 120 Kalyaṇaks (holy events), making it incredibly sacred. Yet, it lacked a proper temple, worthy idols, or a dharmashala (pilgrim rest house). Witnessing this, Pujya Bandhu Beladi Acharyashri felt deeply saddened and resolved to uplift the tirth.

Despite years of effort, challenges such as its distance from Gujarat, low local Jain population, and tensions around the Babri Masjid made progress difficult. Even after three years, success was elusive.

But the divine had its own plan. Time passed, the resolve deepened...

An Accident and a Miracle

In Vikram Samvat 2052, while visiting Jambudweep in Palitana for Chaturmas, the Acharyashris were passing through the land where Ayodhyapuram now stands. There, they witnessed a massive snake crossing the road. Suddenly, a large vehicle ran over it. The snake was critically injured, bleeding and struggling to survive.

Acharyashri immediately stopped, gently moved the snake off the road to safety, and recited the sacred Navkar Mantra for 10–15 minutes. The snake peacefully passed away while listening to the holy chant.

A Divine Sign

Now you may wonder, what connection does this incident have with the Ayodhyapuram Tirth? But in truth, this incident forms a deeply significant part of the Tirth's foundation.

When Pujya Acharyadevshri completed the Chaturmas in Palitana and was returning via the same route, he arrived at the very spot where the earlier event had occurred. From that sacred place, he beheld the divine sight of Shatrunjay Giriraj. With deep devotion, he offered darshan and vandana from there itself.

It was during this moment that the divine leela of the Paramatma unfolded. Pujya Acharyadevshri received a celestial message — "The spiritual work you were meant to accomplish in Ayodhya, fulfill it here, on this very land. And name this sacred place: Ayodhyapuram."

This is that very land…!

At that moment, Pujya Acharyadevshri wondered—Why was this divine sign revealed for this land? But it didn’t take long for him to grasp the deeper meaning behind it.

He was immediately filled with an inner realisation and received a spontaneous insight — Oh! This is the very land where, while listening to the sacred Navkar Mantra from my lips, that serpent had left its mortal body.

Surely, this divine sign must have come from that very serpent, who attained a celestial state.
And this land — a part of Vallabhipur, in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat — is indeed none other than the ancient foothills (taletī) of Shatrunjay Giriraj.

It was on this very sacred soil that Pūrvadhar Shri Devardhigani first compiled the Jinagam scriptures in written form, alongside 500 Acharyadevs… What a holy and sanctified land this is…!

The Origin Point of Ayodhyapuram!

Yes, this very divine signal became the origin point of Ayodhyapuram!

Following this celestial message, the construction of the tirth began here. At that time, Bandhu Beladi Acharyadevshri recalled a cherished vision of his revered Guru, Pandit Abhaysagarji Maharaj Saheb. His Guru had once expressed the heartfelt wish to see the creation of a magnificent idol — An idol of Dada Adinath in Padmasan posture, standing 23 feet tall — symbolic of the Lord’s divine form, which was believed to be 500 dhanush in height.

If we consider 1 dhanush as equal to 1 finger-breadth or 1 inch, then 500 inches translates to approximately 23 feet when seated in Padmasan. In fact, Pujya Gurudevshri had even commissioned a large oil painting of such a grand image at the time. But due to the limitations of time and circumstance, that dream could not be manifested back then.

So the thought emerged — Why not establish such a majestic idol of Dada Adinath right here in Ayodhyapuram?

A search was initiated for a stone massive enough to bring this vision to life. And where the intent is pure, and the resolution divine — even nature comes forward to lend her support! A miracle occurred — a colossal stone was discovered in the Jeeri mines, located about 70 km from Jaipur.

That very stone was brought here on a 150-wheeled trailer, and from it was sculpted the grand idol of Dada Adinath Bhagwan.

“By following the path of religion, we should participate in charitable works according to our capabilities, this is the right path.”

A unique place of devotion
